Mavens of St. Catherine Island

Mavens of St. Catherine’s Island is a new full-length ghost play from an all Atlanta based team with unique arrangements of folk music in its second year of development.  From Geechee, to Cree, to Scotch-Irish, to Spanish, Mavens - set in 1901- allows its all-female characters to explore the pastiche of language (including Village Sign), religion, customs, beliefs, art, and views of female empowerment that have created the very specific rhythms, food, dance and folklore of Georgia’s Barrier Islands, especially the way residents own their own power and ride out history’s “mighty storms.”
